6 - Watch the sunset on Camps Bay, have a cocktail at Caprice's.. Pretend you have a yacht and blend in with the crowd ;)
7 - Climb to the top of Lion's head. What a view!
8 - Go wine tasting around Stellenbosch. Have breakfast in one of their french brasseries. Make sure you drop by the Huguenot monument.
9 - Go visit the Penguins at Simonstown. Careful, they bite, those vicious creatures!
10 - Have some Bacon Explosion! That's bacon, wrapped in sausage (not any sausage, boerwurst, or farmer's sausage in Afrikaans), wrapped in bacon! Some have claimed it is better than sex...
11 - Partey like there's no tomorrow! So many cool places: The Shack, Rafiki's, clubs in Long Street.. Good times!
12 - Finally, just before you leave, go have breakfast at Kirstenbosch! It will probably help with your massive hangover :P
ps: don't worry, if you forgot to buy Biltong to bring back home, there's biltong shop at the airport! Lol
2012 foi definitivamente o ano das viagens. Para fechar com chave de ouro esse ano, eu, Alex e dois amigos fizemos um safari de canoa pelo rio Zambezi, que divide a Zambia e Zimbabwe. O rio é um dos maiores da África. Ele surge na Angola e desagua no oceano Índico pelo Moçambique. Ele atravessa diversas regiões onde água é escassa e toda vida animal depende exclusivamente desse precioso rio. Logo, lugar melhor para avistar animais não há.
O primeiro destino era Victoria Falls, uma cachoeira fantástica à 1400 km de Joanesburgo. Em um velho Toyota Jazz, atravessamos o Botswana e Zimbabwe em 2 dias de viagem. Paramos em Palapye para dormir. Foi uma longa viagem. O asfalto nestes dois países não era ruim (melhor que no Brasil, diga-se de passagem) mas o que realmente complica a viagem é a quantidade ridícula de animais na pista (vacas, macacos, javalis e pessoas).
Achar direções era complicado. Pedir ajuda é missão impossível pois nem todas pessoas falam inglês. Em zonas menos urbanas, as linguas locais predominam.
Depois de descobrir que dirigir a noite no Zimbabwe é mais perigoso que qualquer animal selvagem, chegamos à Vic Falls. Lindo lugar. Pra relaxar da viagem, fizemos um booze cruise pelo Zambezi pra assistir o pôr do sol.
Infelizmente a Devil's pool vai ficar pra próxima. Não deu tempo pois preferimos ir fazer white water rafting, que é muito mais radical.
White water rafting no Zambezi foi simplesmente sensacional. É um dos melhores lugares do mundo para rafting, com 18 quedas muito animais. O barco virou uma vez (fiquei preso embaixo dele, o que foi bastante agoniante por alguns segundos) e várias vezes tivemos que assumir posição fetal pra sobreviver (awesomeness).
Depois de Vic Falls, fomos pra Chirundu, 120 quilômetros à leste, também na fronteira. Passamos uma noite em um lodge com direito a uma visita ilustre de um hipopótamo enquanto nos estavamos fazendo um churrasco perto do rio.
A farra no lodge foi grande, afinal, no Zimbabwe eu sou trilhonário!
No outro dia, pegamos as canoas logo de manhazinha e já começamos o passeio pelo rio. Essa parte eu vou deixar as fotos e vídeos contarem a história. É muita coisa pra escrever em um post!
E 1600km depois voltamos aos engarrafamentos de Pretoria/Joanesburgo. Ops, esqueci uma pequena paradinha na Great Zimbabwe, em Masvingwo. Foi onde a gente passou a noite, na volta pra África do Sul. Esta é uma cidade da idade das pedras, completamente murada por pedras. Simplesmente incrível! Li em algum lugar que é a maior construção antiga na África depois das pirâmides no Egito!!
Eu acho que a lição dessa viagem é que muitas coisas em uma viagem como essa podem dar (muito) errado. No entanto, quase sempre nada dá errado e tudo que resta são apenas memórias fantásticas de uma aventura. O lance é dar chance à chance. Nunca podemos prever tudo o que vai acontecer mas podemos sempre esperar o melhor! Dirigindo 3000km pela África, 4 países diferentes e um safari de 4 dias, dormindo com os hipopótamos, crocodilos e elefantes à noite. Recomendo fortemente.

Neste momento no país, com greve de diversos setores públicos, fica a pergunta no ar: a esquerda deste país, aquela que está no governo há quase 10 anos, o que ela de fato conquistou neste período? Programas fome zero e bolsa família tiveram algum impacto significante em nossa sociedade? Ou ainda achamos normal alguém no funcionalismo público ganhar salários de quase 20 mil Reais, quase 15 vezes mais que o salário que a maioria deste país recebe?
Se tomarmos por exemplo a França, uma quantia equivalente em Euro à 15 vezes o salário mínimo de inserção social, o equivalente ao seguro desemprego, seria por volta de 7500 Euro, mais do que a metade do salário do ilustre novo presidente da república, Mr. Hollande. A diferença é que 500 Euro equivale a mais de 1000 Reais, o dobro do nosso salário mínimo (pago aos escravos a quem trabalha). Algo para refletir.
Mas tudo isso é bem mais do que os 0 Reais que eu ganho, pós doutor desempregado no Brasil. Boa sorte para todos nós! ;)

So I spent last weekend biking around NYC! Me and Alex got a bike rack and drove our to New York last Friday..
We left Baltimore around 1PM but due to an accident on I95, we only arrived at NY around 7PM! :/ We stopped to eat but we were constantly getting stuck in jams around Philly and getting thrown off the highway because the GPS was outdated.. Anyways..
I parked my car in Staten Island, in the street close to the ferry. It seemed safe and parking was free. We then caught the ferry around 7:30 to Manhattan. We took a few beautiful pictures of the statue of liberty and Elis island at sunset. Really cool!
We were really lucky, the weather was perfect. It didn't rain and temperature never dropped below 18C. Perfect temperature to bike around the city! We then biked to the hostel - the YMCA on the west side. Decent hostel, staff was kind enough to let us bring our bikes to the dorm (there was no way we were leaving our brand new bikes out in the street at night).
We wandered around Broadway until we found this cool bar..
On Saturday we biked all the way down to Battery Park, then we made our way to Chinatown to eat lunch. Almost got killed a couple of times by crazy NYC drivers but it was worth it, we ate at the Shanghai Asian Manor:
Good food, good service, happy chinese people everywhere (which is somewhat rare in a chinese restaurant)..
After lunch we biked all the way to the brooklin bridge and back to the hotel. Biking in the middle of the streets of NYC is hard even during the weekend. That's why we decided to go back to the bike path on the west side after having some coffee at Washington Sq. So many cool things going on in that city...
At night we caught the subway down to SoHo, there are plenty of bars and restaurants south of Washington Sq park.. We went out on a few of them, Alex made some friends ;)
Beware of NY prices for the drinks, one small beer: $14.. One mohito? $35.. If you think this is not excessive, my friend, you are stinky rich. But the view from that bar is just simply amazing..
Apparently Alex found out that they had the top 6th coolest bathroom in the world!! (??? lol). Wanna know why? This is a picture I took while I was in there..
We went back to the hotel around 4AM and room service woke us up around 9 the next day (bastards, it was Sunday).. We biked down to catch the Staten Island ferry and this time we caught some cool pictures of the statue of liberty..
Back to Baltimore, I realize that how boring this city is compared to New York.. But then again, New York is New York and nothing compares!
